We are on our second 73" HDTV from Mitsubishi. The first one had the lamp go out after 6 months and then we discovered the serial number plate was missing off the back. (there was glue, but no plate) Mitsubishi would not honor the warranty because of the missing serial number. They even implied that I bought a black market TV from a disreputable dealer. When I informed them that I had my receipts from Costco.com, they still would not honor my warranty. Fortunately for me, I know Costco stands behind their products, so they made arrangements to replace my set with another. After having the second unit for 4 months, it started displaying an error message that the unit was overheating and will turn itself off. I called Mitsubishi support and they informed me to just reset the unit. The problem happened several more times, and we finally got permission to send it in for repair. They had it for a week and returned it working. Three months later it happens again. The repair company said they could repair it in my house this time. Apparently the only repair Mitsubishi will authorize is the resoldering of the heat sensor. The technician explained that they have to follow certain steps dictated from Mitsubishi. He admitted all they did the first time was resolder the wires on the heat sensor unit. Two months down the road the TV is turning itself off again. The repair company said they would try to talk to Mitsubishi into replacing the sensor. They got authorization, but the part is back ordered for three weeks. I was also told they had several other customers waiting for this part.(It appears that it is used not only on the 73" model, but smaller screens too.) The part was replaced 4 days ago, and the TV is shutting itself off again. Luckily it made it through the Charger game.
