Hmmm, i read alot of reviews but this is my first one. We just bought a we-65711 from the big screen store in MD, so I thought that for the next tv we should also get mitsubishi. Mitsubishi is best big screen tv out there, I didn't know why till I bought the 65711, but I'll explain.
There is this thing called Net Command which basically turns your tv into an AV reciever. That's not a big deal, but what is cool is that you don't have to point your remote directly at any component because the TV has it's own IR cables that shoot into any device you connect. Using Net Command and the cables, you can control devices using the standard mitusubishi remote and also using the device's remote, both just by aiming at the TV screen. Your devices can be placed out of sight, so it looks neater. And controlling your satellite, hdtv, dvd and vcr using one simple remote is pretty impressive and convenient.
My WS-65711 can only use the mitsubishi remote with certain companies, and they are all high end because its a 6k tv... brands like Integra, Marantz, Bose, and some pioneer and denon. However, the ws-48613 can use any company's stuff because it has a learning function.
Both tv's I have have good HDTV reception, but I think the newer tuner in the 48613 is better and can get weaker signals. We have installed an HDTV antennae, but you can't probably get it because we paid off the voom guy to install it for us. Its called a stealth antennae and its way better than the 100 buck one at best buy, which is just a piece of plastic crap.
Ok, back to the ws-48613. It is awesome and can connect to everything, includind DVI and VGA. It has memory card slots and can be hooked up to so many devices at once...another thing that makes mitsubishi unique. Also you can adjust the color really easily across 6 different colors, which is cool.
I know, for 3k you can get a plasma, but if you want good picture quality and a robust machine, i would go with the mitusbishis hands down. The only hit is that because you can't get the 48 in a diamond line model, you don't get hte antiglare coating, like on the 813...that coating is really good and makes my diamond tv my favorite. In a dark room it doesnt matter, but we put the 48 incher in a room with skylights and it gets annoying sometimes during the day.
