The Bottom Line:
This is by far the best tv for the money spent.
I will start with one note saying this is my first time looking into HDTV's and wanted the nucleus of my home entertainment to be the tv. Well I purchased December 1st 2002 the WS-55511 platinum series television. It is a 55" HDTV ready. Here is a list of components so far plugged in.
Toshiba progressive scan dvd player
Scientific Atlanta digital cable box(HDTV signal included in package)
Playstation 2
Now for the review of the television
First off the picture quality with my cable box is awesome. Digital signals come in 480i and 480p and the HD is 1080i. There are enough component inputs for every type of vhs and dvd player on the market. I havent gotten a vhs player since my dvd collection has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to columbia house and bmg.
The television out of the box when plugged in needs to sit in living room for about 2 hours so the internal components can get to your room temperature. Which is a great time to read the manuel which is very easy to understand and learn the remote. Which by the way is a bit large.
I have two children and this televsion is on almost 12 hours a day. This is by far the best for your buck when comparing larger tv's.
Other tv's I looked into the same size 55" couldnt compete with color and clarity. The best way to test a tv is bring a dvd of your own to a store and ask to show it on the screen you want. A great dvd is Gone in Sixty Seconds. Reason why I chose this one is becasue the opening scene is at night and has alot of movement. You need to notice the blacks and whites when looking for a tv that is 42" or bigger and is a rear projector.
After I set this tv up to maximum use I will ad to my review.
