NICE SET! GREAT PICTURE!

byKBDUKE Jul 16, 2004
Pros Great Picture and Sound! Lot's of ports for hook ups. Wheels to move it around.
Cons Hard to use manual, unintuitive remote, power conservation mode.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Mitsubishi is a top quality television with the lowest repair rates of any major rear projection televison manufacturer. Great picture and great sound makes it a keeper!
I traded in the Toshiba 65" for the smaller 55" Mitsubishi. I wanted to get the 65" but $2699 was just out of my price range. I got the 55" with built in HDTV tuner, the Digicon On screen tuning, firewire, computer serial ports, photo card insert and all the bells and whistles. It only cost me $1699.00 It was worth it except for one thing. I live in the boonies now and we don't have HDTV service except on Satellite.

I have heard too many horror stories about their service! Easy to get, hard to get hold of anyone to service them or fix them.

I had the television delivered, set up and they showed me how to use it. Great feature, and I recommend it because it is not an easy or intuitive remote to use. The instruction manual is also not completely user friendly either. But once it was hooked up and programmed, they left me with an awesome picture and an idea on how to use it. The problem I experienced is that It would not immediately come on for a few minutes. The green power light would blink and blink and blink, then it would come on. After several calls I had to figure out that the power conservation mode was on and if you switched it to regular power mode then it would fire up the moment you turned it on with the remote. It has plenty of ports and plug ins for absolutely anything you can dream of to hook it up to including a computer.

The television's surround sound feature makes watching it without my amp and thunder box turned on good also. The surround is very wide and at times I must turn it over to stereo so Mrs Duke can sleep in the our bedroom next to the living room. Even at a level of 25 out of a maximum level setting of 75. It is very full and richly detailed.

The widescreen picture is excellent. When I have seen an HDTV show it is absolutely the best picture I have ever seen. The internal television antenna is so good you can get HDTV programming on our local stations without the cable box being attached. For an example when the Super Bowl was broadcast in HDTV not long after I purchased it. I remembered the television sales rep. telling me about the internal antenna so I disconnected the cable with no outside antenna and still had a great picture! This television has 1200 x 1200 lines of resolution to it and can do everything you need it to. After all, the picture is why you purchase a television. Sound can be added or subtracted. The protective screen does get a small amount of glare but not enough to make it a concern. Although I did like the picture of the 57" Hitachi a tiny bit better it was the screen glare, even in the showroom, that kept me from purchasing it. Along with an inferior internal surround sound, (There were alot of consumer complaints on how weak it was, because some times you may not want to use your amp.)The lack of a firewire port or a computer port. I highly recommend it! After several months of ownership, with no problems, I am still taken aback by how good the picture looks. I love it!
