Great (HD) TV!

byrg1 Nov 27, 2000
Pros Widescreen format, HDTV upgradeable, universal remote
Cons Text & fast moving regular TV images are blurry
Recommended it? Yes
Here is the criteria we had in mind:

1. Widescreen 16:9 format
2. Large screen (50+ inches)
3. Good reputation
4. HDTV upgradeable

We looked at all brands that fit the above requirements and found the Mitsubishi ones to be the best. Mitsubishi is in the 3rd generation of this technology and has the best reputation in the big screen market. A friend that has their TV has been very happy so far.

We considered the lower-end model (55807) and the 65" one as well but ultimately decided that the best bang for the buck would be with this one.

We also purchased the extended warranty provided by the store (a ripoff at $499) but we figured that it was a good idea as repairs to these TVs can run quite high.

The feature set is good. The universal remote works well (although it does not control my Kenwood receiver :-) ). Picture quality with DVD is great. Lot of inputs of all types (component, s-video, etc.).

The only issue with it that I have found is that when watching regular TV (non-HDTV), fast moving images (like sports) tend to have ghosts. The same is true for text. I think that this may be calibration issue but I am not sure.

Overall, I would recommend this TV to anybody looking to buy something with similar criteria as listed above.
