The Bottom Line:
Mitsubishi is a great brand, but as with any anything you may get a lemon like me.
I bought the Mitsubishi ws-65311 in early 2003 for about $2700. This was the first projection television I have ever bought. For the first year we only used the TV for movies and sports events. I paired the TV with a high end Denon DVD player and high quality cabling which produced a good picture and sound. Starting this summer (2004) we began using the ws-65311 as our main TV. Within a couple months we began noticing a red "haze" around the outer edge of the picture. We used the built in advanced convergence to try and fix the problem without any success. Finally, the picture became so poor you could barely see what was on the screen. We had various "Mitsubishi certified" service technicians look at the problem and all of them agreed that he convergence board was already going out. The cost to replace this was between $700-$1000 with labor. We were told by the technician that this is very common with newer projection televisions. They said that with recent increased production there has been a reduction in overall quality of projection televisions. Since we did not have the money to fix the television at the time we decided to sell it at a "highly reduced" price to someone who could fix it themselves. This was the first and the last projection television I will ever buy. I am happy to go back to using my 7 year old 36" Toshiba that has never had a day of problems.
