A Recommended Product, But Be Aware
Pros
Very good picture, easy to connect and operate.
Cons
Support is hard to obtain if living outside of a Mits marketing area.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a very fine machine, I highly recommend this unit, BUT, just be aware of the Mitsubishi lack of warranty support.
My unit has been in service since August of 2001. The picture is superb at 480i, 480p and 1080i. These signals are from a satellite feed and progressive scan DVD. With the 64 point convergence manual calibration, the colors can be tweaked to dead on accuracy. This machine, as with any other projection or regular TV for that matter, I highly recommend purchasing a calibration DVD to calibrate brightness, contrast, color and sharpness to the industry standards. After performing this, I always leave the auto color (iris) control off.
This unit was purchased from out of my state and ship directly to me to save significant money from a local dealer who refused to deal. When you purchase, make sure the dealer is in fact an authorized dealer. If it is not, Mitsubishi will REFUSE to honor their own warranty. So, go to their website, look up the contact number, call Mitsubishi, and ask them specifically if your potential dealer is an authorized dealer.
My dealer is authorized, I just wanted to make sure everyone understood the position of Mitsubishi. Anyway, after several months went by, the HD card failed. The part number is 935C966001 or also known as the 2HDW board. As that I purchased the unit from out of state and because there was no authorized repair center within 150 miles of my home, I ended up having an incredible amount of trouble fixing this unit. The part failed on 11/04/01. After many phone calls, at my expense, to Mitsubishi, we failed to come to any resolution to fix the unit. Finally, the dealer was able to make several calls and have the circuit card sent directly to me. The job to replace the card was quite simple, simply remove the back, remove four hold down screws, pop out the card, replace and reverse the disassembly. It was about a twenty minute job. The unit went back into service on 12/18/01.
In reality, it shocked me that the Mitsubishi failed. I have experience with their products and have not heard of failures. The equipment is quite long lived. The TV has one of the best pictures available, is upgradeable, and the cost is reasonable.
