The Bottom Line:
We haven't found any tv that compares with the Mitsubishi. It is worth the money.
We have two Mitsubishi wide screen TVs in the Platinum series. The 65" and the 55". Both are wonderful. We had purchased a Mitsubishi 48" big screen TV in 1983 and gave it to our salesman when we purchased the 65" in 2002.
The quality of the picture is amazing especially using Dish network but when we had cable it was great also. The sound is good, but we use external components on the 65" to have theater surround sound. We compared, we shopped, we read the reviews. We are sold on Mitsubishi PLATINUM or PLATINUM PLUS TVs. My son has a Mitsubishi 50" TV and it is not the platinum series and it is still a wonderful picture.
We only had one service call that was under warranty on the 1983 version. The 65" traveled with us from NH to AR and came through the trip with no problems. We purchased the 55" for our bedroom. We are TVNUTS! and SPOILED!
Only consideration with all large TVs is the room you are in and the window light behind you in addition to the lights on the side during the day. The only way to watch this kind of tv is in the dark!
