The best rear projection HDTV
Pros
Spectacular picture, bright and sharp. Tremendous impact; Firewire connectors!
Cons
Needs a professional calibration (ISF) to make the picture flawless. (Worth it though!)
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Thought I'd get a Pioneer Elite, but the Mitsubishi's electronics are a step up from the Pioneer. After an ISF calibration, I can honestly say, the picture is superior too.
If you are looking for the best in RPTV, look no further than this set. It offers a built-in turner for over the air HDTV channels, a regular tuner for analog broadcasts, NetCommand to control your other electronic gear, the best set of connections, inputs and outputs on the market (including infared repeaters for your other stuff and multiple Firewire connectors). The Firewire feeds your recorders, such as D-VHS decks to record over the air HDTV. And those decks can playback on the set, also via Firewire (which carries the HDTV video, audio signals, and your wireless commands). And it all works with incredible ease! (Setting up your other components in the NetCommand menu does take time, but oh boy is it worth it when you're done!)
The real star of the show here is the picture. This set offers three 9" CRTs to deliver as bright and sharp a picture as possible. The screen size (73") is just addictive. And with superior sources, such as HDTV, you can sit surprisingly close. And the set even splits in half to make setup and delivery painless. This is easily the best set I've ever owned (including my once beloved Pioneer Elite, which now pales in comparison).
The only step of from this set might be a grade A projector and electric screen. That setup was impossible for me, with my multi-use living room and lots of ambient light. If you're looking for a set that is designed to last for years, deliver an incredible HDTV (and DVD) picture, and that's engineered to stay current with tomorrow's technology, there is nothing finer. I am thrilled I bought this beauty.
