Nice but not worth the money

The Bottom Line:  I would tread lightly with this one, do your research.
My fiance and I purchased this unit at Best Buy in 2002. Now, I'm going to keep my personal feelings on the evil that is Best Buy at bay and focus on the TV, but lets just say I think the problems we've had with this model may stem from where we got it.

The TV is nice to look at it. However, the imputs are visible on the side of the TV, and if you don't want to keep you head towards the floor to watch it, I would buy the extra stand ($199). Otherwise, the TV is too short on the floor.
The picture is very nice. We have all the available HD channels, and even though I didn't think I would be able to tell the difference, I definately can. Because this TV is set up for Widescreen, it takes a little time to get used to people looking "stretched out" and tubby. But, you do get used to it.
The remote that comes with this TV is easy to use, and despite what the other review say, I don't think it's overly large.

Now, on to the problems. Three months after having purchased this TV, we turned it on and were greeted with a little "snap" and smoke. The TV went black. Fiance is a technical guru and usually can fix anything, but he was at a loss. We called Best Buy to come fix the thing, being that it was still under warranty. They gave us the run around, told us that it was probably one of the three color "cannisters" that had blown, and that they are not included in the warranty and we would have to pay for it.
Well, it came down to me having to find a copy of our warranty, prove to them they were wrong, finally someone came out to replace the "cannister". What I found out was had we HAD to pay for it, it would have been over $200. Quite pricy for a little TV part.
The TV functioned fine after that for about a year. Then, about 3 months ago, the picture started "pulsating". Bare in mind this TV is just over 2 years old. The picture would zoom itself back and forth. If we didn't shut the TV off ourselves and turn it back on to stop the zooming, it eventually shuts ITSELF off. Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing.
We've found out it a teeny tiny $7 malfunctioning piece that is causing this problem. You can order the piece, but installing it is another deal. We were told we would have to bring the TV in to do this. This tv is about 56 inches, very bulky, and we don't own a truck. They replaced a cannister in our home, yet a piece about the size of my thumb necessitates a trip with a bulky TV in the back of my passenger car.
Given the amount we paid for this thing, I was hoping it would last longer than 2 years without problems. Definately get the extended warranty becuase it's expensive to fix on your own. My father had a Mitsubishi big screen (not HD) for 10 years without a single issue. I think we may have gotten a lemon, because when it DOES work, it's a great TV. I just wish it would have lasted longer wihtout so many problems.

So, in the long run, the TV cost $1400. On top of that, $7 to pay for the new part and aproximately $300 to get that tiny part installed, the TV may have cost us more than it was worth.
