Mitsubishi WT-46805 46 in. TV

I wanted to get a jump on the HDTV era. I purchased the Mit. WT-46805 HDTV ready set. The picture quality is only as good as the cable transmission. The wide screen format is great, but all cable channels broadcast in 4:3 ratio. The expand feature fattens the view. Even Ally McBeal looked heavy. I am biting at the bit! I understand Directv will be offering an HDTV receiver for their broadcast. I have not found any other information as of yet. The cable companies are not currently planning HDTV format via cable. Hint: Invest in Directv (GMH NY exc.) If you have had better luck than I, please let me know. That is, if you have not spent $10,000 or more to get it. The receivers available are intended for you pluck the HDTV reception from the air. I would not invest in the receiver if you are intending on viewing directv. The receiver cost +2500 right now. Rumor has it that Mitsubishi is coming out with a $900 model Jan 2000. The one to watch is directv. They are building directv receivers into the RCA models right now. Mits. is developing a directv receiver for their sets. I guess you have to be patient. Maybe I should have waited.
