The Television
I had the television delivered as it was huge and could never fit into any of my cars. Not to mention the people I would have to get to help me lug it inside the house and unpack it.
I was like a little boy at Christmas time unpacking a brand new bike, with a glitter and tear in my eye as I saw the screen glimmer. Yes, Christmas came early this year, and this will be my new toy for months and years to come.
Moving back onto the subject of this television, as it was not a very big television. The television is very compact and you would need a stand to elevate it to the correct position for viewing. The stand that we received was the stand pictured here with the review. It will fit 2 components nicely inside (for us a Onkyo TX-SR595 receiver and a Toshiba 3800 DVD player). Any more components that you need to add you might want to think of a shelf unit to surround the television.
The setup of the television took forever, having to navigate through menus galore! We also purchased an AVIA setup DVD that will hold your hand paging through the myriad of settings. I would recommend this to a novice HDTV user who wants the best picture quality possible, without the trail and error of doing it yourself.
As far as the sound from the speakers, we never really had a chance to hear them as we already have a fine setup for surround sound and the TV speakers were not needed.
The picture of this television was the best I have ever seen. After we bought the TV we only had a Harman/Kardon DVD 5 (a non-progressive DVD player). We were using that for about a month before we went progressive. The TV was delivering colors I have never seen before and the depth was astonishing. The progressive features are to die for!!
The Settings
Let it be known that there are numerous warning labels abound in the users manual and even after you open the box. This warning is there to let you know that watching certain channels like CNN, MSNBC, or any other channel that does not constantly change the entire picture is forbidden to watch for long periods. Doing this will have an imagine burned into your screen, which is NOT COVERED by the warranty. Also remember that this warning includes those pesky black bars in widescreen format on DVD, get rid of them with your different picture formats you can scroll through.
This television comes with a ton of options to keep you busy..
MicroFine CRT: 20% spot sizes revealing sharper, clearer and brighter images.
Motion-Adaptive Comb Filters: fast action content is displayed with high clarity and not blurred.
DiamondVision: brighter image with improved focus, beam control to enhance resolution, and reduction of double images.
Diamond Shield: Shields out sunlight and in-home light so that the picture is not washed out.
DPM3: This is by far the most prominent feature on the television in my opinion but this feature called DiamondDigital Pixel Multiplier 3 will provide a high quality signal, regardless of input source (even analog).
Overall
Overall, This television is superb in giving us what we see in the theater and at the right price too. The next thing is a waiting game as we wait for cable companies to deliver that HD signal from every channel and into our home at a good price.
