Reach Out and Touch Someone?Sort Of

Pros Decent audio quality and range; sturdily built; call tone for signaling intent to talk
Cons Menu hard to read; instruction manual poor; GMRS license required for some frequencies
Recommended it? Yes

When I was a kid, my dad built a CB radio from a kit and spent endless evenings chatting with strangers. I suppose it was the 1950s equivalent of instant messaging. I was not as fascinated with the technology as he was and to this day eschew instant messaging and cell phones. But when planning a... Read full review »

Longer, Further, Uncut

Pros Works well, long battery life, ease of use, transmit up to 5 miles
Cons No channel scan, GMRS frequencies require licence
Recommended it? Yes

The Talkabout T5720 is similar to the T5620. So this review will read very similar to the T5620.

The biggest difference is that the T5720 adds the ability to transmit up to 5 miles (using GMRS frequencies) at 1 watt, while the T5620 only transmit at 0.5 watts, allowing it to only go up to... Read full review »

Don't expect too much

Pros Well-built, small units that pack away easily
Cons Not water resistant, limited range due to GMRS limitations
Recommended it? Yes

I got the Motorola T5720's with great anticipation to be able to connect to lost biking buddies on the trail but much to my disappointment had to realize that they might be better used in Disney Land than in a Mountain Bike area.

But lets not skip ahead:

The units are well built... Read full review »

A fine 2-way radio-but stay away from water!

Pros compact and light
Cons stay away from water
Recommended it? Yes

I originally bought this radio so I could stay in touch with my 7 year old son at the park. While I have thought about these radios before for other purposes (hiking, mountain biking, shopping) I never really saw the need until my son and I became active volunteers at a local park. Now I use it... Read full review »

My wife and I wanted a nice durable set of radios for around the house, camp, flea markets, etc. We went through some radios from Cobra and Audiovox before buying these Motorola T5720's. We don't require super-long range, but these radios seem to go the farthest distance, which is about 1.5 miles... Read full review »

Pros Go to Communications USA at www.commusa.com.
Cons Maybe the range, but that is expected.
Recommended it? Yes

I went to http://www.commusa.com and I was very pleased with the price and order speed. The T5720 model boasts all of the features of the T5700, with the additional ability for you to talk hands-free with optional voice activation (VOX) accessory. Three AA alkaline batteries required per two-way... Read full review »

Pros Seems sturdy, solid.
Cons the emf warnins for over talking and keeping too close to face.
Recommended it? Yes

Havent tried long distances yet but close range quality is very good.
I have the T5710 which i gotta believe is the same as the 5720, but sold/packaged for Costco.
$49.99 for 2, ni-cad version with charger, ear-plug and faceplate. Seems like thats a good deal for this model.
