Fine MP3 player, bad voice recorder

The Bottom Line:
Don't buy the MuVo N200 if what you need is a voice recorder. Instead, buy a product which includes an external microphone, telephone adapter and other accessories.
I bought the MuVo N200 specifically because of the line-in and built-in microphone voice recording features. My application is to record events at which I speak, to record live rock performances and to record telephone conversations (with the other party's prior knowledge and consent). NONE of these functions delivers acceptable audio recordings.
Telephone and live rock recordings are just garbage because the MuVo doesn't limit the input levels in any way, so they are badly distorted. The result is loud crackly noise, not music or intelligible speech. The line-in jack requires a line-level microphone feed, or a microphone and preamplifier combination, which costs more than the MuVo did brand new!
Without the external line-level microphone input, recording just from the internal microphone, normal volume conversations are mumbly and hard to understand. Rock recordings are all noise, and I don't mean musical noise, I mean overdriven circuit noise.
In summary, the MuVo Micro N200 works fine if all you want to do is listen to MP3s, FM radio and transfer files. Choose a different product if your primary need is for a voice recorder. There are quality voice digital recorders available for the same price as the N200 which have less memory but which include all the accessories and design features you'll need for quality voice and live music recording.
