Excellent for the gym or any active lifestyle

byrundle Feb 14, 2005
Pros Small, rugged, easy to use. Sweat resistant. Best mp3 player for an active person.
Cons None so far, I love this little baby.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Rugged, small, sweat resistant. Excellent for the gym or other activities.
The nice thing about the muvo sport is the compact size. Its rugged, water resistant (in other words, sweat resistant). The USB port has a little cover on it, so you can't even get sweat into that, and mess up your connection.

256 MB is a lot of space, I was able to easily fit 4 CDs worth of MP3s on the unit, and there was still space left over.

It has an expansion slot where you can put up to another 512 stick if you really desire.

I can't imagine needing more than 256 MB of memory, personally.

I put some nice heavy beat tunes on there, and head to the gym, and I'm set for a solid workout. With the right music it lets me keep going that much longer, which is good all around.

The unit is small, fits in my pocket easily, although it comes with a nice armband that would probably work well for a lot of people. The armband and the casing seems very solid, I'm just not an armband person.

Its bigger than some of the "stick" looking ones, but its not so big that I feel its really an issue.

The readout is reasonably sized, so its readable, the controls are usable. You really should figure out what you are going to listen to before you start working out though, its a little hard to control on the run, but that's true for the other mp3 players I've used as well. All the compact mp3 players are going to have that problem since the controls tend to be small buttons.

One of the nice features about this unit is the fact that you can have folders. You simply select a folder and play that folder of music (or other audio files, I like to listen to the occasional book too!) So if you organize ahead of time, you can just pick sets of music or audio files to play.

You can also listen to FM radio - it has an autoscan feature which is nice. I'm not sure how many preselects it has (at least 20), but it picked up all the FM stations in my town. You can then go through and delete all the ones you don't care for, and you're all set.

It has a stopwatch, countdown timer and lap timer built in (not features I use, so I won't go into that).

Plug it into your computer and simply drag and drop files to the unit. You can create folders on the unit itself and drag and drop files around. Very easy to get data to the unit.

Tough to say anything bad about this unit, its pretty much plug and play.

The ripper that comes with the unit is decent, the software package is again very easy to use.

The controls are pretty intuitive. I strongly recommend NOT doing what I did. I didn't try out half the features until I was on the treadmill! You are better off trying it all out at home. But even so, I didn't have much trouble at all, so that might tell you something as well.

The earbuds are useable but are the first thing I replaced, I like a little more solid headphone. If you are used to earbuds, you'll be happy with these.

Uses 1 AAA battery and so far, the battery life has been decent, about 12 to 16 hours.

Plays MP3 and WMA files.

If you are looking for an MP3 player for the gym or other active lifestyle activities, this is the one to buy.
