Making Much Ado About This Movie
I?m going to have a hard time explaining my two-year-old?s vocabulary to his grandparents and future teachers. He doesn?t yet say his name or ?grandpa.? He does, though, say cuckold (courtesy of his dad memorizing a Shakespearean monologue), hoody hoo (don?t ask!), and now he sings, ?hey, nonny,... Read full review »
Something For Nothing
I have handed in my resignation to the staff at Camp Sisterwood and have officially washed my hands of their project, Bodice Ripper. Let them find someone else to try and turn their motley crew of jackbooted truck drivers into a set of ethereal ladies of the evening for their feminist take on the... Read full review »
My Boyfriend Laughed and I Cried at this Romantic Comedy
Kenneth Branagh managed to do it again! He took a classic Shakespeare play and turned it into a movie! And oh did he succeed! Not only is the movie true to the 1598 play, which Shakespeare called a "tragic comedy," but most of the character are even more developed and you get a better sense of... Read full review »
Of Hearts and Conspiracies -- Much Ado About Nothing
When one thinks of Shakespeare, the first response is generally to think on all the timeless epics he penned (or so we believe so far as history reveals) and grand soliloquies to jester's skulls. Much Ado About Nothing takes us to the lighter side of Shakespeare with one of his comedies.

Must Watch or Do Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing is a very interesting play. The play can be broken into seven different categories and makes it very easy to follow. Without breaking the play down, it would seem hard to follow because there is a marriage, a set up, a fake and yet another marriage.
The exposition of...

Shakespeare on film, just like he'd have wanted
"Much Ado About Nothing" is a beautiful, entertaining movie; you can tell that Kenneth Branagh really put his heart into making it. It's a comedy taking place in 17th-century Italy, and the setting is perfect - the movie is full of lush landscapes and beautiful gardens.
The plot is...

Be you blithe and bonny!
Much Ado About Nothing contains many formulaic characters -- the plain dealing villain Don John, the prim and faithful Hero, the clown Dogberry. It also contains two of the most attractive characters ever invented by William Shakespeare -- Beatrice and Benedick. Although the title of the play... Read full review »
And a Comedy it is!
While I respect Max's epinion, and mean no offense to him in my counter opinion, I knew I had to let my epinion be heard as well. What a joy this movie was to watch! I enjoyed every moment of this movie, from the picturesque hillside opening, to the fanfare closing. I'll not repeat details of the... Read full review »
Good Movie
Not a Shakespear fan? Too bad. Now you can't enjoy one of the best comedies written. No matter if you are flouent in Old English tongue, you can still appreciate the comedy via the stunning performances played by the actors.
The actors faces are all highly animated, there is no possible...

Much Ado About Something!!
I'll get right to the point and say this is a must see across the board: the acting, the scenery, the costuming, the writing, I could go on and on. I remember the first time I saw this in the theatre, having chosen the film strictly because I enjoyed Kenneth Branaugh and Emma Thompson (husband and... Read full review »

Much Ado About Nothing - Dvd
When gallant Don Pedro (Denzel Washington), his nefarious brother Don John (Keanu Reeves), and close confidantes Claudio (Robert Sean Leonard) and Benedick (Kenneth Branagh) ride thunderously into the Sicilian village of Messina, romance, gaiety, and suspicion abound. The men have returned safely from a war, and soon everyone in the sun-drenched villa is abuzz with thoughts of love. Claudio, enamored of the purity of the nubile Hero (Kate Beckinsale), entreats Don Pedro to woo the maiden on his behalf that evening at a masked ball. Once he's managed the successful betrothal of Hero to Claudio, Don Pedro has another plot in mind: he plans to trick Hero's bantering cousin Beatrice (Emma Thompson) and sworn bachelor Benedick into acknowledging they've fallen in love. Meanwhile, the villainous Don John, driven by contempt for his compatriots, has hatched a plot of his own: to fool Claudio and Don Pedro into believing Hero is unchaste. The plot works perfectly: sensitive but volatile Claudio denounces her publicly

Much Ado About Nothing [VHS]
Kenneth Branagh's 1993 production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is a vigorous and imaginative work, cheerful and accessible for everyone. Largely the story of Benedick (Branagh) and Beatrice (Emma Thompson)--adversa ries who come to believe each is trying to woo the other--the film veers from arched wit to ironic romps, and the two leads don't mind looking a little silly at times. But the plot is also layered with darker matters that concern the ease with which men and women fall into mutual distrust. Branagh has rounded up a mixed cast of stage vets and Hollywood stars, among the latter Denzel Washington and Michael Keaton, the latter playing a rather seedy, Beetlejuice-like version of Dogberry, king of malapropisms. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, Dolby sound, optional Spanish and French soundtracks or subtitles.--Tom Keogh
