The Bottom Line:
I could not have spent $875 in a better way. Excellent design, product, and pure listening pleasure all came in this purchase that will last many years to come.
I have purchased the new Music Hall MMF-5.1 turntable to replace my Numark in my system. The Music Hall is far superior in quality when compared to my old turntable, although the Numark did serve me well in listening to my vinyl. But after listening to a couple of albums with the Music Hall MMF-5.1, I have learned that I missed a lot of subtle differences in music, which would be all you could hope for when upgrading to this type of turntable. It's like going to a Lexus after driving your Kia. A very high end product.
The thought and design that was put into the Music Hall is what got me to purchase it. First of all, the dual plinth design caught my eye right away when I was searching for my replacement. I kept thinking, why does it have that? Well, both plinths are separated by six little rubber nubs and it keeps the all of the electrical parts isolated from the sound producing components, which in turn would mean a clearer, truer, quieter turntable. I marvel at it every time I use it. The turntable came packaged in two different boxes to avoid any mishaps in handling, and the packaging of the turntable itself, was almost bomb proof. Just shows how much of a higher end component this is! The 2 speed, belt drive turntable comes with a built in bubble level, a Goldring 2200 cartridge, 45 rpm adapter, belt changing tool, an Allen key to adjust the tonearm's vertical tracking angle, high quality interconnect cable, a record clamp, to help with those semi warped vinyl gems, dust cover, and three rubber feet to help with adjusting the level of the turntable, and to help isolate sounds, and vibrations to the Music Hall. It all came ready to use except for setting up the tonearm, and the tracking force, which is clearly explained in the manual that was provided. I also found a pair of white gloves in a bag that came with the turntable, I suppose, so you don't get finger prints on the gorgeous piano black finish. I was up and ready to play some records in about twenty minutes.
When I am playing my vinyl with the Music Hall MMF-5.1, I am pleased beyond belief. I have never spent this much on a turntable before, and I will never regret that I did! It's that good! It tracks every groove on the record surface, and with the Goldring cartridge, which I have never heard about until my purchase, the records seem to have more definition, and less noise. As of now, I have used the turntable around 20 hours, and from what I've read up on the cartridge, it will be "broken in" soon. From my point of view, it sounds great now, and I can't wait for the break in period to kick in.
If you are serious about HIFI, and love the vinyl, then this turntable would be a great upgrade. You are able to tweak the sound if wanted because of the high end tonearm, or leave it as I have done, and still be able to enjoy the sound and quality of this stereo component. Just the cartridge alone is worth $200, making the price of $875 a bargain!
