Very reliable, beautiful warm sound
Cons
No phono input
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you need a second receiver, this an excellent choice. The home theater aspects are outdated but for stereo listening it sounds better than many new receivers.
This review is for the AV-300, which was sold at Best Buy during the 90s; it is the equivalent of the AV-3S.
I bought this receiver in 1998 when my old Akai (bought in 1983) finally bit the dust. It has been a very good investment; the sound is very warm with a good soundstage for audio listening and I have never had any problems with it whatsoever. The home theatre aspects are outdated now (it only has ProLogic) but it is still functioning well. I am now using it in my basement system and plan to use it until it conks out, which seems unlikely. For the price you can get these for on e-bay (they pop up once in a while) you can't go wrong. It would be nice if there was a phono input (you can't use the auxiliary input for this) but that is the only negative I can think of.
