The Bottom Line:
GREAT SOUND. EASY TO USE. Simple factory styling.
I originally had a Kenwood Excellon KDC-x711 and it was a really nice radio, I switched to a Clarion and was impressed with the improvement in the quality of sound but didn't like the display or the way the piece just looked in the car. After realizing I just wanted a radio that was easily viewed in the light of day and wasn't overly bright at night I decided on the Nakamichi.
From the moment I put this deck in I was impressed with the sound. Using the deck power it is possibly the cleanest and loudest radio I have ever heard. I can turn the volume to levels that are too loud for me to really enjoy and the distortion isn't noticeable. The crispness of the internal amp and the great sound I get from the preouts connected to my amp have increased the quality of my stereo exponentially. The remote is another great feature of this unit, I have had about 5 receivers that have had remotes but non parallel the ergonomic layout of the CD-45Z.
There are really only two things that I don't like about this radio. The first is the fact that you cannot turn the subwoofer up and down or adjust the level of the crossover on the deck like I could with the Kenwood. Another feature that really bothers me the most is if I get to the end of the CD and want to start it over I either have to wait for it to play thorough the last song and the restart from the beginning or cycle all the way back because it will not let you push forward on the track and start from the beginning (hopefully that makes sense)
This radio is for an older person that just loves to have the best sound possible. Most younger kids are more interested in Bells and Whistles that are offered by the Kenwood's, Pioneer's, and Alpine's of this world. For me the simple practical design was what makes this such a great unit. If you are just looking for the BEST sound you can get look no further.
