The little console that couldn't sell anymore! What a SHAME

This is the best portable game machine that didn't get enough support. Far superior then GBA if it would have received support. Must buy for classic gamers!
Click for the in-depth review! I know, this came out and tried to battle against the Nintendo Advance. Well I suppose the rest is history and it wasn't pretty for the Neo Geo pocket, I suppose you could say. But, I believe it was for all the wrong reasons. This was at one time the best handheld system on the market and I'll tell you why!
What is the Neo Geo Pocket Color capable of?
The specs were actually fairly impressive for the time period this product was released! Here are the following specs for the best handheld system I have played!
CPUs: Toshiba TLCS900H core (16-bit), 6.144 MHz, Z80 at 3.072 MHz for sound.
RAM: 12 k for 900H, 4k for Z80
Resolution: 160x152
Colors: 16 palettes per plane, 48 palettes. 146 colors on screen out of 4096.
Sprites: 64 sprites per frame, 4 colors per sprite
Sound: PSG 6 tone simultaneous output. Stereo sound.
Cartridges: Maximum 4 MB (32 Mbit) with 4-16 Mbit flash memory.
Batteries: 40 hours on 2 AA batteries. Lithium CR2032 battery backs up memory and clock.
Design
First off the design was far superior to the gameboy advance. It was nice and compact and for stylized taste was offered in multiple colors. There were two buttons to use that were well placed, and an analog control, that to this day was the best control scheme I have ever used for a handheld system! The system was nice and compact that fit very nicely in the palms of your hand. Neo Geo pocket color also had a nice crystal clear screen with rich colors and with large resolution sizes available for some incredible 2-D gaming action!
Must have games
So are there any must have games for this classic, yet short lived Neo Geo pocket color? Yes, actually there are plenty of must have games and if you purchase one of these here are the games you need to go with it!
Baseball Stars, Bio-Motor Unitron, Fatal Fury First Contact, Gals' Fighter, King of Fighters R-2, Metal Slug 1st & 2nd Mission, Magical Drop, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium, and Sonic the hedgehog Pocket
As you can see for a short console life it has actually racked up quite a few must have games in my opinion. Oh, I often wonder what it could have been without Nintendos' tight grip on the handheld market, because in my opinion this was the far superior game system of the two.

SNK vs. Capcom: Cards fighter clash (Capcom version & SNK version), Neo Turf Masters, Samurai Showdown 2, Puzzle Link 1&2, The Last Blade, Faselei, Evolution: Eternal Dungeons, Dark Arms: Beast Buster, and Crusher among others.
As you can see there is ample games to keep a gamer busy. And with batteries getting up to 40 hours of game play that is terrific. I was actually very impressed with the overall selection of this neglected handheld system.

I love this system to death. Yes, I still to this day believe that this is a superior system then Nintendos' GBA. I just wish the developers support was there and people weren't afraid to buy something in the handheld market that wasn't made by Nintendo! I just wish more gamers would have given this gem more of a chance. It was truly the best handheld system on the market! I still believe that there are more then enough must have games on this system to warrant a purchase. As long as you know you can locate a place to buy the games first. This is a handheld system that will be very hard to put down while you are on your road trips. Neo Geo pocket is stellar and deserves a look. Especially if you are a classic gamer and missed out on this gem the first time around. Don't blow it again and pick it up now you will not regret it!
