The Bottom Line:
OK for use in a vacation house or maybe for your kids to use.
Sound quality is good, as is playback of DVD/CD. Speakers are the type of plastic that you know is plastic right off, not the semi-metallic type appearance others have. It is a pretty good unit for an spare system, but since this was in our family room, and got used several times a day to play movies, I wonder if thats the reason it suddenly failed. Bought this Mothers Day 2005 and it died 126 days later, well within the 1 year warranty. Actually, the DVD tray drive is what died. If I do not get it repaired, it comes to $1.52 a day for cost of ownership, which is less than I spend on coffee at the local coffee place. My biggest complaint is the remote control. Even a toddler would have a hard time selecting the buttons to press, since the control has 47 buttons on a control that is 1.75 inches across and 5.5 inches long. Before acquiring the knack of using my fingernails only to select a button, there were many frustrations trying to select some functions. And the labels for the buttons that do have labels are in such a small font they are difficult to see. A competitors unit I bought for use in our den has about as many buttons, but they are laid out on a control that is much larger, so that every button can easily be selected, and all are have easy to read labels.
