The Bottom Line:
This is a good lens for travel when light weight is a must.
The Nikkor 24-50 f/3.3-4.5 AF D zoom is a convenient, lightweight lens that's particularly well suited to those times when you don't want to carry big glass around.
The barrel construction is the polycarbonate plastic that Nikon uses in the majority of its lower-priced lenses. It seems durable enough, but the writer doubts it would take any really hard use. The filter ring in particular seems a bit flimsy.
Optically it is good without being out of the ordinary. A little barrel distortion at 24mm, a little pincushion distortion at 50mm. The lens is OK for architecture if you're careful. The color rendition and contrast are quite good, and the sharpness is not bad at all.
Overall, quite a decent lens and available inexpensively.
