N90S - It's the best for photographers
Pros
Solid, metal construction; exemplary optics and exposure controls
Cons
Gets heavy
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is a solidly constructed and durable camera yet delivers premier photographs when left to do the work alone.
I purchased my N90s as my first major photography purchase. I was so impressed. I made a point to sit down and discover exactly what this bad boy could do. However, I soon found that a lot of the neato-peeto functionality would require additional purchases (SB-28 Speedlight, MF-26 Databack, MB-10 Grip/Battery Pack). This did not cause me much dismay because as soon as I got my first "experimental" roll back, the roll where I tested the camera's ability to decide on the proper settings, I was floored. The prints were astoundingly beautiful.
Used with a Tamron 24-70mm zoom lens, I was able to take crisp, clean pictures with the blink of an eye. I could also switch the camera to fully manual with the snap of a button to gain more willful control over the camera.
Used in conjunction with any number of Nikon accessories, this camera serves as an excellent intermediate tool or an extremely reliable back up for the professional.
With it's 8 pt. full matrix metering, it provides you with the most reliable light meter you can buy as well as motion sensors to hone in on your moving subject. A great asset when shooting fast moving subjects such as sports teams or rock concerts. I used it for pretty much everything from concerts to still life photo shoots. It never let me down.
If you want to learn to shoot like a pro but cannot fork out $3000 for a 35mm SLR, this is your best bet.
