Rugged & Reliable N90
Pros
Good solid reliable equipment
Cons
a little heavier than some cameras
Recommended it?
Yes
This is a wonderful piece of equipment, does exactly what one asks of it, and never misses a beat. Have run over a thousand rolls of film through it, and have only a handful of pictures which missed the mark (on rare occasions, the auto focus can get a little squirrely, oncoming headlights seem to bother it the most). The only bad pictures this camera shoots are due to pilot error or bad processing (if you get fuzzy pictures with this camera, check your negatives, have had bad prints from great negs on more than one occasion)
Upgraded to this from 20 years of other SLR's, previous system was Olympus, which while wonderfully compact, did not have the features of this camera. Autofocus that works is a treat for those who were raised on manual focus only cameras. The system works well with Nikon (AF-D) lenses, can't comment on other brand lenses for the Nikon.
Excellent support from Nikon USA
Get the proper Nikon case, and a padded neckstrap (this camera is a little heavier than some of the cheezoid plastic products of some other vendors)
Digital cameras have come a long way (and I now use one for non-critical tasks, but for out and out quality of image, this one is near the top (larger formats, of course, trump the 35mm format)
Highly recommended for the advanced amateur, and not bad for the Pro either.
A splendid piece of equipment!
Accessories used:
24mm f2.8 AF-D
85mm f1.8 AF-D
(excellent lenses, btw)
SB25 flash
