Nikon is famous for countless superlatives in its contribution to the development of 35mm SLR photography. Among them are its legendary macro lenses near the 50mm or "normal" focal length. These lenses, dubbed Micro Nikkors, have been a reason many purchased into the Nikon SLR system in the first... Read full review »

Nikon's 60mm 2.8D AF is a macro marvel, but not without some minor problems.

Pros Excellent optical quality, true 1:1 reproduction, large manual focus ring, light weight.
Cons Aperture ring is very imprecise, focus ring is over-dampened.
Recommended it? Yes

In search of a good normal macro lens for my Nikon FM3A, I did a lot of research online, talked to several professional photographers, and found that two lenses were consistently mentioned: the Nikon 55mm 2.8 AIS, and the Nikon 60mm 2.8 D AF. Because the 60mm D AF has a 1:1 reproduction ratio and... Read full review »

Macro work is one of those things that most photographers would like to try. There are many ways to achieve the closer focus necessary for macro work...from extension tubes to bellows and even reversing rings. The best method for the beginner who wants to give it s serious try is the dedicated... Read full review »

An awesome standard macro lens

Pros Superb image quality. Goes to 1:1 unaided. Superb build.
Cons Bulky and fairly heavy. Not the fastest auto-focus performance.
Recommended it? Yes

The Nikon 60mm F2.8 AFD micro lens is a standard prime (i.e. ~50mm focal length) with the ability to focus to life size (1:1) where the size of the image on film matches the size of the subject.

Mechanics
The lens has traditional aperture ring situated close to the camera end. It... Read full review »

Pros Excellent resolution
Cons Why can't all lenses perform this well
Recommended it? Yes

I bought my used and it is by far my top quality lens in my bag. The very first shots I took were close ups of a tea bag and ear plug and the rendition was astonishing. You could see the cross hatching in the tea bag cover. Everyone in Photo class was impressed as well.

I have set up... Read full review »

Don't bother with a "normal" lens

byuniquebobc Nov 30, 2004
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Very light; exceptionally detailed photos.
Cons Is the 62 mm filter size unusual?
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this reasonably priced lens for close-up work. The detail in close-ups is outstanding! But what is special about this lens is that it can be used for general photography--I have used it for scenics with crystal-clear results, no matter what f-stop was used. It also has manual focus and... Read full review »
