Holy crud Batman this is one fast lens!
I have had the opportunity to use this lens for both macro objects (machinery) and long range stage events.
I cannot believe how fast this lens is for the range 80-200mm and the close focus capability.
Ours has the tripod collar and the two rings (one for focus and one for zoom)...

I Love My 80-200mm f/2.8D
This is a wonderful lens! Well built, very fast focus and silent. The optical quality is also wonderful, but I don't think it's much better than the non AF-S version and plus the current non AF-S version is about half the price, making it a better choice.
