Good Idea, Mediocre Execution

Pros Plays most NES cartridges
Cons Games hard to insert, colors off, buttons switched, some games don't work.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Despite all the negatives with this product, I would still recommend it if you want a portable way to play the old NES games.
Most serious gamers still have an NES.  With that NES he or she undoubtedly still has a ton of old games in a drawer or closet.  But that old NES "toaster" isn't the most reliable old time console.  How can you enjoy these old classics without spending a fortune?  How about a portable gaming system that plays the old NES cartridges?

That's the idea behind the FC Mobile Console.  About 1 and 1/2 times as large as a Nintendo DS and extremely light weight, this third party portable system boasts playing all your old NES games.  And it does, sort of.

The system has a small 3.4" LCD screen and the usual d-pad, pause, select, a & b buttons, and reset.  There is a small switch on the top to turn the system on and off.  Behind that is a cartridge slot that is large enough to fit an old NES cartridge.  This slot is protected by a hinged "door" on the top.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, as we have quite a few old NES games that she prefers to the modern games.  This does deliver on it's promise to play old school Nintendo games on a handheld system.  That's the only pro.

Now the cons:

Very difficult to insert the games.  You really have to push hard to get a game seated in there, and you fear breaking either the system or the cartridge.  You have to line up the contacts on the game with the input device in the system, as there is a small amount of extra room in the slot.  If you simply stick the cartridge in and push down, you risk damage to both the unit and the game.

Some cartridges will not work.  Obviously, light gun games do not work.  This is not that big a deal, I didn't expect them to.  But, some games will not work at all.  For example, the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo cartridge.  I don't want to play Duck Hunt, I just want to play SMB.  Can't even get a title screen, just a white screen.  A couple other games I've tried will not work for no apparent reason.

The colors are way off.  This is annoying.  I understand that maybe some colors have to be muted to fit all the information, or even black and white (or green like the original Gameboy).  But in this case, all the colors are there, just not in the right place.  For example, when you play any sports game, the grass is not green.  Golf, Baseball, Football, whatever, the grass is red.  Red!  It's not as if the system is incapable of producing green, since all the items that should be blue are green...

This one is unforgivable.  The a and b buttons are switched from the original NES controller.  As you probably know if you are reading this, the original NES controller had the buttons as B A.  The exact opposite here.  Not too bad when playing a game like "Bases Loaded" or "Rad Racer" but very difficult if playing a Mario game.  This should have been a no-brainer.

The instruction manual is not clear.  Is there something wrong with the system since it won't play certain games and doesn't display colors properly?  Who knows?  There is no troubleshooting section in the manual.  Which way is the cartridge supposed to face when you insert the game?  Figure that out for yourself, because the manual says nothing about it.  Only thing the manual says is "If the unit is not working properly, don't try to fix it yourself."  Thanks.  I won't.

This is an excellent idea for a product but really lacks in the execution.
