bybillservo Oct 30, 1999

Pros The standard in portable gaming, huge library.
Cons Addictive, won't wear a seat belt, flight attendants make you turn it off.
Recommended it? Yes

10 years later and I am still playing on the same video game system. I remember being in 9th grade, just dying to get my hands on the first true portable video game system. It was state-of-the-art then. And after all these years, it still holds up well.

The newly designed Gameboy Color... Read full review »

A Passable Handheld

bydopple Jan 13, 2002
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros More Visible Display than original, Solid line of RPGs, Some Good NES Ports
Cons Still Pricey, Most Games Are Weak, Horrid Sound, No Backlighting.
Recommended it? No

I never really understood the popularity of the original Gameboy, especially when far superior systems like the Sega Gamegear and Atari Lynx hit store shelves offering better technology and cooler games - yet for some reason Nintendo's primitive, slow, Black & White console with the hits & miss... OK Here?s my story: Bear With It

I bought a game boy

I got Pokemon Blue with it and Battle Toads

Pokemon was mildly enjoyable at first, but the annoying music made me put
it away for a year.

Battle Toads was boring and too difficult.

I bought Zelda... Read full review »

Pros Everything about it !!!
Cons It's not backlit. You have to have a light source to play.
Recommended it? Yes

I love Nintendo's Gameboy system. I love everything about it. The size, the color, the games, the portability, the accessories, (with the exception of that stupid "Light and Magnifier thingy) the cable link, A/C adaptor. I just love it!!!

First off, the size. Easily fits in the hand of an... Read full review »

My oldest daughter who is eighteen just recently went to the store to purchase a color gameboy. However, four of the stores she went to were sold out of this item. She decided to hang out at Toy's R Us to find something else to purchase. However, while she was there the gameboys were being... Read full review »

Not Really Worth It

18 Helpfuls 19 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Color, highly efficient, multiple housing colors.
Cons Obsolete less than three years after release, overall bad games.
Recommended it? No

Everyone and their sister had a Game Boy within six years of the release of that beautiful system. I got mine in 1992 at the tender age of seven in preparation for a cross-country trip. That system served me well for several years, during the ages when I, either out of clumsiness or purposeful... Read full review »

Go-anywhere gaming

byB_Campbell Jan 23, 2001

Pros Extremely small size, good graphics for a small screen, tons of games
Cons Tons of games = tons of bad games, not backlit, drains batteries
Recommended it? Yes

At it's original inception, the Nintendo Game Boy was intended to let people take their favorite games with them wherever they wanted. Packing 4 AA batteries and a '4 shades of grey' screen, it really did just that, letting people play games on long trips or boring visits, in all it's... Read full review »

Pros Price, games, controls, and developers
Cons Not enough buttons for fighting games
Recommended it? Yes

After taking up Coaching and discovering that most of my time as a Coach would be taken video taping matches. It occured to me that for long bus rides and the break after matches or going through the team break there was something which was needed to break head aches. Enduring my first head ache... Finally! Something to do on long road trips with the family!

byditzy_blonde Aug 20, 2001

Pros Screen is easier to see, doesn't guzzle batteries, tons of games, compact
Cons you have to play in pretty bright light to see the screen
Recommended it? Yes

I've had a gameboy original forever. It's a big clunky gray thing with hard-to-see graphics and a VERY easily scratched screen. A year or so ago I kept seeing ads for a gameboy color, so I packed away my old gameboy and used up all my babysitting money to buy one. I'm very pleased with my decision... Read full review »
