Small is the New Big: Nintendo Game Boy Micro

byB_Campbell Oct 4, 2005

Pros Small: 4"x2"x1", light, extremely bright display, trendy, standard...
Cons Feels fragile, unprotected display, no Game Boy/GBC compatibility
Recommended it? Yes

Nintendo has practically owned the handheld gaming market ever since the release of the original big grey brick of a Game Boy. Back then, nobody cared that they were playing games in only pea-soup green or that the thing drained batteries like nobody's business; they could take those games... Read full review »

Big gaming in a small package

Pros Small, portable, customizeable, bright screen.
Cons Screen size is small, price may be a factor for some.
Recommended it? Yes

I don't think of Nintendo's Game Boy Micro as a new system, so much as I think of it as an extension of their already popular Game Boy Advance line. The system is essentially a Game Boy Advance in a smaller shell. I don't think of it as a "novelty" item either, as I do see more and more people of... Read full review »

Pros Smallest Gameboy console ever made, bright full color LCD screen
Cons Proprietary AC Adapter, short battery life
Recommended it? Yes

One of the most remarkable things about electronics is that some devices remain popular, years or even a decade after they were first produced and sold. Today, I want to pinpoint one of these electronic gizmos. The Nintendo Game Boy Micro Handheld Console which was first released on... GAME BOY MICRO
(2005-????)

I was worried when Nintendo first announced a 32-bit successor to the insanely popular original 8-bit Game Boy Color way back in 2001. Sure, the Game Boy Advance was a cool system because it added more power to the aging 8-bit Gameboy, but the system still... Read full review »

Pros Best design ever for an advance...
Cons ...but looks are all it excells at.
Recommended it? No

Nintendo are drunken sailors who spend money like drunken sailors. But to be fair, they're at least intelligent drunken sailors. They know even if they release the same Gameboy system four different times, it'll still sell by the millions. Although, the Micro is not exactly the hottest gameboy... Read full review »

Great gaming on a screen the size of 2 postage stamps.

Pros Small, fun, and VERY portable.
Cons Aging technology, no new features, expensive, needs a "sleep" mode badly.
Recommended it? Yes

The word is out; there's nothing new with the Nintendo Game Boy Micro, except size. Why buy it? It's small, cute, fun, and you have a hundred bucks to blow... oh- and you're a gadget lover. I must say, it's a cool gadget for sure. The unit comes with 2 extra face plates, a small tool for removing... Read full review »

Pros Extremely Convenient & Discreet size
looks great next to my cell...
Cons No Backward Compatibility (GBA ONLY)
Incompatible with almost all...
Recommended it? Yes

The game boy micro still has value in 2009 because it offers the convenience of nintendo's smallest handheld with an affordable game library ($3-25), and it is extremely casual to play in public both physically (comfortable and discreet) and economically (mine cost $30, if it falls in the... Pros Size, screen, good looks, fun factor.
Cons Backwards compatibility, and speaker.

This is my review on the Game Boy Micro; the first Advance Game Boy with both a normal headphone jack and a backlit screen.
So, I got my Micro last year. It cost me only $16.50 on eBay shipped. In case you are wondering, they don't normally cost that little. The person I bought it from didn't... Read full review »

Three cheers for Game Boy Micro

Pros Portability, stunning screen, stylish design, expansive (and inexpensive) game library.
Cons How much longer will the Advance lineup be supported? Possibly not child-friendly.
Recommended it? Yes

For the uninitiated, the Game Boy Micro is Nintendo's latest addition to their venerable portable Game Boy console lineup. The Micro made its North American debut in September 2005 - albeit with very little fanfare in the US. Although I'm by no means a gadget hound, I only became aware of its... Read full review »

Pros The portability is great!
Cons There is no flip down cover to protect the screen.
Recommended it? Yes

The Game Boy Micro is a great little system. I love it because I can take it anywhere with me. The Micro is not quite as advanced as other games, but is definatly worth the money. I love the portability of it and the backlit screen is great for playing in the car after dark. Read full review »
