As long as I have been buying video game consoles, NES has always been my first choice. I bought the original Nintendo back in the early 80's and my wife enjoyed to play all the games that were available at the time.
The graphics at the time were state of the art, and they only got better as the years progressed. There probably were hundred games available for the original Nintendo game system, and the prices back then were kind a steep $20.00-$50.00.
So you now that technology has advanced us into the 21st century and the 3D graphics have become the wave of the present, Nintendo N64 game console and game cartridges have remained in my opinion the top of the heap. I am happy that Nintendo chose to keep it's games and consoles in the cartridge platform, it seems to me that it would be best for a family with kids. There is less of a chance that the games would be damaged when all your kid has to do is pop in a cartridge into the console, instead of the other consoles like Sony Playstation which have CD's which can be easily damaged.
As far as the controllers are concerned, the N64 controllers seem to fit my kids better then that of the other game consoles. My kids have played the other game consoles in the stores and preferred the N64 over the others.
The games that are available for the N64 are pretty much like they always have been, you have the mainstay game Super Mario and several other newer versions of the original (Mario Party #1-3).... Etc. The one thing that will notice is the graphics have gotten so much better from the original Super Mario, the 3D graphics are awesome compared to the original NES system. You also have your wide selection of the Sports games Baseball, Basketball, Football and Golf ...etc. Then you get into the racing games and off-road racing games. The Adventure games and the role playing games have really spectacular graphics.
The selection of the game titles available for the N64 game console may not be a big as for other game consoles, but I don't have trouble finding games that my kids like to play and that is what it is all about.
The game pricing ranges from around $20.00- $65.00 which is amazingly close to the way it was in the beginning, with only a few of the games in the upper range of the pricing. I think the N64 is a really good value for the money.
Besides the biggest reason we bought the NES N64 because this is the one our kids wanted, we didn't buy it and then force the kids to play it, our kids decided this is the one they wanted and they love it.
So in conclusion if you are trying to make the decision on which game console to choose, take a minute and ask your kids which one they want and then make the best choice for you. In my opinion you cant go wrong with the NES N64.
