Nintendo 64 - Great AAA Games or Bring on the Gamecube?
Pros
Great Multiplayer System
Cons
Lack of Games
Recommended it?
No
The Nintendo 64 is one of those systems that make you go hmmmm...?
It could have been a great Powerhouse for a system but it lacked a few key resources, but the amazing thing is Nintendo has managed to make a considerable profit off the system, but consider Nintendo has managed to make a profit nearly every year and has billions in the bank tells you they know the Video Game Industry. Before I give the positives about this system first let me get the negatives about this system off my chest
Disadvantages of the N64 ----
#1. First and foremost, is the lack of 3rd party support. The N64 still doesn't have the biggest of libraries and this has definetly hurt the n64 but amazingly they still profit which brings me to the counterpoint of why N64 is also a Great system.
Advantage #1. Killer First and Second Party Games
They truly have some of the best 1st party games made on this system that have everything and truly are some genre breakers. Games like Mario Party, Mario Kart ( one of the funnest kart racers espicially Multiplayer) Goldeneye (1 of the top Multiplayer games of all times, amazing considering its on a console where most of the top multiplayer games are on the PC!), Perfect Dark, Zelda - Legend of Ocenina and the newly released Majora's Mask, Smash Brothers, etc. Bottom Line, Nintendo can Make Killer AAA Games on a consistent basis like clockwork!
Disadvantage #2. Use of Cartidges as Data Medium
This one hurt the N64 probably the most when considering the lack of 3rd party involvement, the cost of cartidge vs Cd is huge and is 1 reason why Nintendo didnt have deep 3rd party support. The memory constainst of cartidge also didn't allow for as expansive or huge games but still Nintendo managed to make it quite successful with highly efficent software compression ,etc
Advantage#2. Shigeru Miyamato- The #1 Name in Video Game Design
This is the man behind Mario and many of the most succesful Nintendo franchies and year in year out, he never fails to keep succeeding and improving the whole totality of the video game industry and making some of the BEST games Ever. Truly , they have a ACE in the pocket named Shigeru Miymato.
Overall, the system has a lot to offer and still has a lot to offer, but with the advent of GameCube next year addressing every imperfection the N64 had, I would suggest this system to those looking for an awesome multiplayer system, but would otherwise suggest the wait for the GameCube, which I have also reviewed and will do an epinion/edit after I buy the system next year.
