Nokia OK for this non power user

Pros good phone
Cons keys a little small
Recommended it? Yes
This was one of the phones which came free with the wireless calling service my wife signed a contract for. Plenty of them cost extra, so I know this isn't the Cadillac of cellular phones - but who needs an oversized overpriced showboat?

Appetizer

You take this phone out of the box, no assembly required. Spend a few minutes with the directions, plug the charger into the wall, and the phone (with included battery already inside) into the charger. Let sit overnight before serving. My wife bought her own carrying case and cover.

The main course

I want to tell you as much as I can about this phone, but the main thing is how it is at making phone calls. It takes a little time to get used to the rather smallish buttons, and to get the feel of it generally - but this was our first extended cell phone experience for my wife and I. It doesn't ring when turned off, as I assume others don't. I don't have a great ear for sound, but it sounds good to me, except when talking to someone while inside somewhere which creates a lot of interference, such as a large mall. You can't hold that against it. No problem inside cars or 'ordinary' buildings.

If you don't read directions all the time

I quote "Your Nokia phone has a fixed length antenna. Do not attempt to extend or remove it."

It's all their fault. The little three quarter inch antenna looks exactly like the top of an extensible antenna. I didn't break it, I just assumed it was stuck.

Display

The display is small but functional, and gives you a fair amount of information. A line showing battery life is always visible on the right hand side of the display. You navigate a menu using scroll keys which highlight your selection. You can turn on a little backlight which doesn't turn on automatically to save battery power.

Advanced functions

Most of the stuff described in the manual under advanced functions my wife doesn't really use much. Retrieving voice mail from her cell phone is intermittent, as the salesman told her it might be, because she wasn't paying extra for the service. Presumably this has nothing to do with the Nokia. The little machine can store names and phone numbers. Some of the features such as three way calling depend on your service network.

Extra features

This is the chapter of the manual after advanced features. This phone can serve as an alarm clock - and you can play several games on it. I don't think any of them offer gameboy any serious competition though. You can also use it as a salad shooter.
