INTRODUCTION:
Cingular introduced this phone on the market on September 29, 2006 at a very competitive price of $149 with a two year contract and I was there to grab one for myself on September 30, 2006 (I Upgraded and have been with cingular for about 2 years). I Compared this phone to newer models from Blackberry, Treo and other smart phones but Nokia E62 phone really stood out.! With a Qwerty keyboard this phone is easy to use even though some users may have difficulty using the small keys but I got used to them in a couple of days. The Nokia E62 has a metal body and quality construction and is a Quad Band GSM phone with EDGE technology for data. It's a smartphone that you can sync to Outlook, browse the web, read email with attachments and add many third party software that you may download. It also features Blackberry Connect. E62 has got great colors and is sharp and large enough to see photos and video's with clarity and the text itself is very easily readable. I love the center Joystick as it makes browsing and using the features on the phone so much easier with just a thumb. Voice Quality is great as always with Nokia on this phone.

WHAT IS IN THE BOX?
Nokia E62, Battery, AC Battery Charger, USB Data Cable, Getting Started CD-ROM, Getting Started Guide, Quick Email Set-up Instructions, Headset and Safety and Warranty Info
WEB ACCESS:
Here you have two options (I prefer option 1 You may use the one that better fits your need by trial & error process):
1)E62's full HTML web browser will present you with a thumbnail of the full Web page so that you can easily navigate to a certain point on the site, rather than having to scroll all over the place. You can also download RSS feeds and blogs, bookmark sites, block pop-up ads, and more.
2)Connect to Cingular's Media Net web browser (WAP 2.0)
On both the options you may personalise your favorite categories and place them on your home page. You can also bookmark commonly used links
EMAIL:
You can read and write email with attachments. You have Four options to choose from Blackberry Connect, Mail for Exchange, Xpress Mail, Good mobile messaging capable. For personal email you can use the following:
Xpress Mail and Blackberry connect
For corporate email and IT managed Solutions you can use all the above 4 options.
The Instructions really explain very well on how to set up your email. I am using xpress mail for my business and personal email and I have had no issues so far. Sometimes I receive emails on my phone first & then a few seconds later I see a message pop-up on my laptop.
You may also program your phone when to receive emails on the weekdays and weekends. Whenever you have email you will hear a tone and White LED Keeps Flashing until you click the email key.
MULTIMEDIA:
I have not really watched too many videos on this phone but I did download one video for my usual curious self. E62 uses Real Player for video which plays files in MPEG4 formats the one that I tried. You can download music Video and more from your PC to Nokia and then go My Stuff application for viewing all your photos, videos, music and listen to recordings taken with the phone's voice recorder. The speaker on the phone itself provides great quality to listen to music (Kind of Mini Stereo). Keep in mind this is not an iPod if you download too much music and video you will be crunched by space on your phone in no time.
PERFORMANCE:
The Nokia E62 has a Texas Instruments OMAP 235 MHz but you will notice there is a delay when opening folders and launching new applications. The phone has 80 MB of flash memory available for storage but it also has a SD card slot for extra storage expansion for extra money out of pocket though. You may or may not need one depending on how you plan to use it.
SOFTWARE:
Nokia E62 comes with a great software bundle including a GPS application that works with Bluetooth GPS (SOLD SEPRATELY), a full Office suite which allows you to view, edit and create Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, a PDF viewer and WAP browsers, Messaging, Music Player, RealPlayer, a Pro Golf game (Nice time pass in the office). Other features such as Calendar, tasks and notes, all of which easily sync to Microsoft Outlook on your PC.
Other Software: Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Office suite(Word, Excel and PowerPoint), IM client, Web, Clock, memory card manager, Java , voice recorder, Converter, File Manager, RealPlayer, Flash Lite, Zip Manager, , music player, World Clock, My stuff, File Manager, Converter, Sheet Presentation Adobe PDF, Help Feature, Music Player, Voice Command and voice aid, HP Printer Software, connection and device manager
MAIN (DEFAULT) PAGE:
Icons for Messaging, Calendar, Notes, Media Net, Web, My Stuff, New Text Message. Time, Date and Shortcuts for Address book and Call Log (Stores upto 20 Phone No. each for missed, dialed and received calls).
ICONS: Signal Bars, Data Service icon, Battery Meter.
Now do not confuse the bars on the right side with bars on the lef side. They both look the same but the left side is for the signal and right for the battery meter. This does confuse a few people.
You may also display One email account on the main screen which shows your email.
OTHER THINGS GOOD AND BAD:
-This phone comes with a "OWN" button which you may program for any feature you commonly use.
-E62 is equipped with a "Help" feature so if you don't understand something the Nokia E62 does its best to explain with some helpful instructions and demo. Just click option on any app and select help-Simple.
-Voice recorder gets accidently clicked most of the time, sometimes when you are in between calls it starts recording and you keep hearing the beep noise until you stop it or it stops by itself after a minute. This is the most and probably the only annoying thing on this phone and I have to find a way to disable this somehow.
-No Wifi. Some people like it and some don't but I can live with that.
-After you download something to your Nokia, Remember to reboot it. It becomes a little slower from what I have noticed so far if you don't
-No Dropped calls so far. Good Signal and Voice quality
-Convenient Email key and Email LED to let you new of a new email
-Conference call with upto 6 people.
-Talk, read email, surf on the web all at the same time.
-Pair E62 to upto 6 devices simultaneously.
-Print Data with bluetooth technology or infrared.
-Download extra themes, tunes, Music and graphics
-Setting up email is easy as the getting started guide explains pretty well otherwise cingular rep can do that for you with no questions asked and for free.
NOTE: Many People know this and a few may not but you have to pick a media or internet plan to get limited or unlimited access to email and web along with the cingular nationwide talk plan. That is another expense you may have to bear if you are buying the smartphone for the first time. Keep in mind you CAN use this phone as an ordinary phone and a PDA as well.
WORD OF ADVICE: If you are buying Nokia E62 then I suggest you do not remove the transparent sticker on the screen. This will protect the screen from scratches for sometime. It is not a flip phone you see. Phone and keys in one pocket.... you know the drill.
CONCLUSION: The E62's low intoductory price, large and bright display, QWERTY keyboard and smartphone features make it an excellent choice. It syncs easily to PC, Outlook, supports several push email solutions including BlackBerry connect and outlook. If you are into smartphones and do not want to spend a lot of money then this may be just the right phone for you.
