Sanyo PM-8200: Average phone, Average price, Average satisfaction
Pros
Dependable, Affordable, Great Battery
Cons
None for me. It works great as a phone.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this phone to anyone who just wants a reliable communication device. It works great as a phone. I talk on mine all the time with no problems.
In case you are not sure if you even want sprint as your carrier, let me start off with my reasons for choosing sprint. My wife and I both have cel phones. We decided that sprint was our best option because of the new sprint fair and flexible family plan. We pay $70.00 a month (plus taxes) for both of our phones combined. For that 70 dollars we get 800 anytime minutes to share, unlimited sprint to sprint, and unlimited nights and weekends. The real benefit to fair and flexible is that if we go over our 800 anytime minutes, we are charged only $5.00 for each 100 minutes over. So for example, if next month we use 985 anytime minutes, we pay $80.00 (plus taxes). This is significant since most other family plans start out at $80.00 a month.
It's a good deal. That is why we chose sprint. The customer service is average. The coverage is average. I have a dropped call a day. It doesn't bother me because I'm getting a good deal. It might bother you.
As for the Sanyo PM-8200. I have had mine 6 months now. Overall, I have been satisfied. This is an average phone.
Reception: The reception is very comparable to any other sprint phone. I have not been in a situation where other sprint users can get a signal but I cannot. If the signal is poor it is due to the coverage, not the phone.
Battery: The battery is probably the best thing about this phone. It can get a full charge in about an hour and it will easily last even the most talkative user all day. I don't use my phone excessively and my battery will last for two full days without a charge. When using the camera or the internet or searching for signal, it goes faster but for everyday use, it is great. My wife's sprint nokia phone battery lasts only a few hours. It is awful.
Durability: The PM-8200 comes in several colors. My brother-in-law has the silver phone, mine is blue. His is very scratched up, and for some reason it really shows through on the silver. My blue phone doesn't scratch as easily and when it is scratched, doesn't show through. I have dropped my phone on the parking lot asphalt several times. It still works like a charm.
Camera: Average phone quality pictures. Not the worst. Not the best either.
Speaker-phone: Works great. I have had no problems with it.
Price: After the sprint discount, I paid $25. I think that it was a great deal.
Ease of use: Very easy to use.
Portability: Very average size for a flip phone these days. Not to small. Not big or cumbersome at all. I wear it on a belt clip because I do not like carrying it in my dress pants pocket.
Overall, it is a good phone. Some people are in love with their phones. I guess I'm not. I use it and it works. It has given me no trouble. It does not have any of the frills that some of the fancy expensive phones have but it is not a fancy expensive phone. It has all of the standard features: Alarm clock, calendar, calculator, voice dial, speakerphone, camera, internet access, downloadable ringtones. I am a satisfied user.
