Still Hate It After All These Years

It comes in a variety of colors
Cons
Low Battery Life, Doesn't hold up well
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Don't expect this phone to hold up, hold a battery charge, or be able to hold a conversation.
I am on my fourth Sprint Sanyo 8200 phone. Not only do I hate Sprint as a company, but I hate this phone that they provide as well.
Just to give you some information about the phone: The Sanyo 8200 comes in a variety of colors - classic silver, dark green, red, and blue. It is a flip phone and a decent size and weight. It's features include picture mail, speakerphone, text messaging, availability to go online, as well as the usual calculator, calendar, etc. that most phones these days include. It does come with a variety of ringtones, but personally, I hate them all and now keep my phone on vibrate. It also has two demo games that come with the phone, but you can go online and download more (and ringtones as well).
Phone #1:
The first one that I got was dark green. I liked the fact that I got to chose which color my phone was. I bought a car charger, and I was ready to go. I don't remember hating it that much at first. It was always annoying to me to have to go through the list of menu options to get to text messaging, calculator, call history, etc. I wish someone at the Sprint store had told me that I could make shortcuts on my dial which I found out on my own 3 years later - oh well!
Another feature I am not fond of is the picture tools. You need to go through 8 different options just to expand a picture if you want to show someone. Not that this is a huge deal, but annoying. Who would ever want to view a picture as a 1/4 size of what the viewing screen is?
After about a year of using this phone, my car charger no longer worked. Also, I was not getting missed calls or voicemails either which really messed up some things in my life. For example, my friend was left stranded at the airport because I did not know she was trying to call me. I called Sprint, and got my phone replaced.
Phone #2:
My car charger did not work with my second phone. Yet another bad Sanyo product that I have not replaced due to the fact that I never feel like spending another $30 on something that will probably break in 2 months. Same problems, same phone. Unfortunately I lost #2 at a concert and it was never to be found again. Please note though if you lose a Sprint cell phone, they will not replace the phone with a brand new one, but rather with a refurbished. I begged and pleaded for a new one, but no such luck.
Phone #3 (refurbished):
Luckily I had phone insurance and Sprint replaced my lost phone with a refurbished. In retrospect, I should have spent the money on a new one. #3 lasted for about 3 months and little by little, the hinge started to get lose. It would no longer make that "snap" sound when it opened and shut. After about a month more, when shut, the screen would flash on and off, draining the battery so much that it was always dead. Finally, a little plastic piece broke off and the hinge was only hanging by a thread...back to the Sprint store for me. After dealing with countless rude employees (that is another review I will have to write about), I was told that the repair people were not there that day, and they were only there weekdays from 9-5. Finally, I made the time to go drop off my phone during my lunch break, and wait 2 days without a phone to pick it up (I did not have a home phone at the time). Upon my return to get #4, I was told that it was really just #3 but with a mask on.
#4 (#3 in disguise):
After having a green phone for 2 years, I picked up #4, and it was silver. Is this a big deal? No. But it would have been nice of them to ask me if I wanted silver. Oh well...I was then told that they simply replaced the cover but they were out of green. At least the hinge was fixed, but the battery still drains very quickly. I can never believe it when I leave it charged all night, use it a few times in the day, then it is dead by the time I get home form work.
Another reason why I hate this phone so much is because of the clarity. The number of dropped calls have increased with every additional phone that I get. I expect my calls to cut out every time so that I am not disappointed. I do not know if this is the area I live in or what. It gets old having to call the same person back 4 times just to have one conversation. Sprint said this is because this model was made before some new digital technology came out. Good excuse! Needless to say, I got a house phone, which is what I use to make the majority of my calls.
4 phones later, I am counting the days until my contract runs out and I can finally get a new phone. I don't consider myself a clutz, but all of my 8200's have had countless scratches from always slipping out of my hands. Maybe I subconsciously drop them? Maybe they are made with some kind of extra-slippery materials? Who knows...I just want a phone that lasts for more than 6 months, can hold its charge, and one that comes with a working car charger. I found none of these things with the Sanyo 8200.
