Pretty good camera for a pretty good price!
Pros
very easy to use, it is small in size, video capability, pretty good battery life
Cons
not enough memory for videos, very sensitive piece of machinery
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is a great camera! Picture quality is good. I would not recommend this camera that drops cameras or has small children, as it seems to be slightly sensitive.
We were looking for a new camera, since the digital Olympus that we had before the FE-230 broke. Not sure what happened to the old one. But my last 2 cameras were Olympus, and were pretty good quality pieces of machinery, so I went with Olympus again on the third camera I have ever owned. I decided to go with this model based on size and ease of use.
I love the size of this camera! The digital Olympus model that we had before the FE-230 was larger and totally bulky, and I hated putting it in my purse. The FE-230 is the perfect size to just pop into my purse, just in case a photo opportunity presents itself!
I have used the video recording option on the camera, it's pretty cool. One of the drawbacks of the video recording option would be that I don't think that there is enough memory to record much video, even if there aren't that many pictures stored on the camera at the time. The longest video I have been able to record is about 15 seconds. When I did transfer the video over to my laptop to try to make a slide show with pictures and video, the video and the sound from the video were saved as 2 separate files, so I was not able to put them together on the show. That's probably me just being non-technologically inclined though.
I have dropped the camera twice since I have had it. The second time I dropped it on my hardwood flooring. When I tried to turn it on the lens did not want to cooperate to fully open. After coaxing it for 10 minutes and shifting the lens around as it was trying to open, I finally fixed it. It seems somewhat sensitive, so if you have little kids or like to throw around your camera I would not suggest this model.
