I needed a new point-and-shoot to replace my trusty old Olympus of five years (I'm embarrassed to say that I'd dropped it one too many times...it still works, but these are memories I'm taking, and I don't want to be caught off guard one day...), so I shopped around and did my research for another one that would fit into my budget of <$180. I was open to any of the bigger brand names (Minolta, Canon, etc.) besides Olympus, so I was pleasantly surprised when my research brought me back to an Olympus compact!
There were several features that I had decided I could not live without (besides the "basics" of auto focus, auto-rewind, mid-roll rewind, etc) -- these were compact size, zoom-in capability, flash control, and more importantly, since I like to be included in my pictures too -- a self-timer for those shots together with your loved one(s)!
This is a nicely-compact camera that fits comfortably in my hand. It's "champagne gold" and not the usual black, so that's a nice change from my previous all-black cameras. The film cartridge is easy to load --just stick it in until it clicks into position, pull out enough film so that it reaches the other end, close the back cover, and the film will "catch" and advance to the first frame automatically.
You don't need to mess with removable lens covers (who has enough hands, especially if you have shopping bags in your other hand?) -- just slide the lens barrier until it clicks, and the flash and zoom pop out by themselves. Very nice.
This camera has seven shooting modes -- (1) auto flash, (2) red-eye reduction, (3) flash override, (4) fill-in flash,(5) infinity, (6) night-scene, and (7) red-eye reducing night scene modes.
It also imprints the date if you like that. Before I bought the camera, I made sure to check that this feature could be turned off because I don't like the little numbers on my photo, even if it's in a corner!
One thing that I wish it had -- a mode that allows you to take pictures very close up! I like to take pictures of flowers, and sometimes, you need to go up close to capture the details. This camera doesn't allow you to do that, although it allows you to take a field of beautiful flowers, which I've done...
All in all, at a sale price of $142, it's definitely a great little camera to have! I have no regrets!
