Very Good Receiver!

Excellent sound quality, easy setup and operation
Cons
Midnight mode useless
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
An excellent receiver for anyone except the extreme audiophile
This receiver sounds extremely well and is very easy to set up. The original box includes a mic that can be plugged into the receiver which is used to auto-configure the speaker sizes, distance and balance. Although the resulting settings had to be tweaked, the automatic setup worked very well overall and would be fine for a novice. Any digital input may assigned to any source, providing a very versatile setup. The Zone 2 controls are very simple. I use zone 2 in preamp mode. In this mode, zone 2 can be activated by pushing the Zone 2 power button and selecting the input. It is literally a two button operation. Now for the downside. Nothing is perfect and the Onkyo receiver is no exception. As with every other device I have ever seen, the "midnight mode" volume equalizer is completely useless. This was expected. If you must have this feature wait for Dolby Volume. Anything else will disappoint. Also, it would have been very nice to be save multiple speaker volumes configurations. I find myself regularly increasing the center channel volume for movies and decreasing for music. However, this is easily accomplished and really not a problem. Other than these very small problems this is a superlative receiver, delivering excellent sound quality and easy configuration.
