Onkyo TX-DS575X -- The Pulsating Heart of Your Home Theater

byradioguy Mar 16, 2001
23 Helpfuls 24 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Clean power on 5.1 as well as stereo output. Learning remote.
Cons Priced a little high for those with tight home-theater budgets.
Recommended it? Yes

The problem with hybrids, things that carry out more than one function, is that they never excel at any of them. Take the Messerschmitt 262 jet, which the Luftwaffe actually managed to get into the air, in quantity, before the end of World War II. While this aircraft, in terms of speed, could blow... At $369, they don't come any better than this.

Pros Good sound, lots of power to spare, multi-source, 5 channel stereo, macro learning...
Cons No s-video (but the new 575x DOES have it), the remote doesn't cover all the...
Recommended it? Yes

This is just about the perfect receiver for someone who is looking to get a DVD player and wants to start up a home theater system with a REAL 5.1 setup (not that simulated 3-D surround sound). This is about as inexpensive as it gets for a receiver that has DTS AND Dolby Digital decoding... Read full review »

Well built - ample headroom - good sound

byshstrang Jul 22, 2000
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros dynamic headroom, metal faceplate, good remote, AC-3 and DTS
Cons push-pin connections for rear channels
Recommended it? Yes

My wife bought me a Toshiba DVD player last year and ever since, I've been addicted to DVD collecting and home theater stuff. Prior to this I was just an audiophile and never really cared about pro-logic/AC-3/DTS surround sound. I figured if it can't sound good with 2 channel, then give up.

Onkyo Jr. Can Hold it's Own

Pros Great value! 70 watts/ch continuous RMS, s-video switching, learning remote, Dolby...
Cons No front A/V input.
Recommended it? Yes

The Onkyo TXDS575X is the replacement for the TXDS575 which had no s-video capability and a non-lighting remote, which proved very annoying in the dark. These were addressed by the new model indicated by the "X" at the end. The unit has 4 A/V inputs (all with s-video inputs and two outputs). In... Read full review »

Cons No S-Video, shoddy subwoofer cut-off, spring jacks for rear speakers.

I had bought a Sony STR-DE835 a couple month earlier and was relatively satisfied with it. But when I heard my father-in-law talking about this Onkyo, I immediately became interested. He is a man of great knowledge, researches products before he buys, ask questions, and only buys things of premium... Read full review »

Pros great sound, plenty of hookups, supports all formats
Cons Blew out, not good hookups on back panel
Recommended it? Yes

The Onkyo reciever came with my home theatre package. All in all its a good reciever. It has tons of hookups to get you all set up. It supports Dolby Digital, DTS, Pro Logic, Stereo, and some other preset sounds like concert hall etc. Its fairly easy to use and operate and you can tweak it to your... Read full review »

Super Value - Decent Features

bySanJuro Oct 9, 2000
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Best value for twice it's street price
Cons Not really the good mid-range unit it could be
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned this receiver for about 6 months and believe there isn't anything that even comes close to it in performance for the same price (possibly even twice the price). Onkyo has really found a great tradeoff between solid base electronics and the most necessary features. They have effectively... Read full review »

Pros Onkyo Quality-Great Features-Reasonable Price
Cons None that I can See

I did a lot of research both on the internet and in the stores before buying this receiver. I also spoke to a lot of my friends who are audio buffs. I was originaly looking at buying a Sony but they all said that an Onkyo is made with better components and is hands down a better product. So I... Read full review »

Simply Wonderful

Pros Excellent quality, tons of power, great price
Cons no S-video, and no AC3
Recommended it? Yes

I use an Onkyo TXSD575 at work to demonstrate all of my top-line speakers for customers. Not once, have I ever heard it distort. Not even on the speakers that I wouldn't buy. I use it to demonstrate the audio quality of radio, CD, DVD, and MP3.
Just like the Onkyo receiver I own (TXSV525--an... Read full review »

Onkyo TX-DS575X Review!

bySproket Jan 8, 2001
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Very Crisp,Clear, and Plenty of Power
Cons None, Really!
Recommended it? Yes

I have bought the Onkyo TX-DS575X instead of the 575 receiver. The 575X series does have S-video out and a back-lighting-remote. Dolby Digital, pro logic, and DTS receiver. This receiver kicks butt. That sums it up. If you go through the test mode where it plays a noise every couple of seconds per... Read full review »
