The Bottom Line:
It is an older receiver but a high quality product
I have owned this receiver for a few years and been very happy with the features and quality. At the time of purchase I was looking for something that would handle S-Video switching and preouts to run to an external amplifier. I came across the Onkyo at a price I was willing to pay. I have always liked the look of the Onkyo receivers so I bought this one. Everything with it works great and sounds great, it does have a volume control problem, with the motorized volume on the unit is doesn't always respond properly. Sometimes upping the volume a lot before going back down. I have found if I put it to a source without a signal and run the volume knob all the way to the max the motor turns it back down and I have a smooth control for a couple of weeks, then it does get jumpy again. Other than that everything has worked great. It detects the TV volume and turns on to the TV source and off 5 minutes after the TV signal goes off without having to touch the receiver, so that is nice when someone else wants to watch TV at your house if you are not around.
As I am looking again, I feel it is time to move to a receiver that will do Component video switching and maybe upto 7.1, but not much else I would add.
