The Bottom Line:
A best buy, great looks, full-featured, high quality unit recommended for the A/V budget in the $1000 range.
I researched Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo and settled for the DS-787 because it was THX-certified and offered all the input and output sources I needed. I am particularly interested in the component video sources and am convinced this is the best video available. The 7.1 audio in coax or optical was a high priority for me. The owner's manual is very complete and mid-technical (easy to understand); setup is a breeze.
Remote is beautiful! I matched this unit with an Onkyo C601 DVD player and Klipsch SS1,SC1, and SP2 and I have not been disappointed. The Klipsch remain, in my opinion, the best performing speakers in the affordable price range of $1000-$1500.
Update: Using this receiver for over 6 months and I stll stand by my original recommendations.
