Onkyo Done Well
Pros
Excellent sound, great power for my living room
Cons
Must turn up to at least 40 to hear good
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Overall, a great reciever and highly recommend for the average home theater user.
The Onkyo TX-SR500 is a excellent receiver for small-medium size room and delivers superb performance whether for home theater or stereo application.
The receiver includes Dolby Pro Logic II Music or Movie depending on your selection, Dolby Digital, and DTS. It also includes several DSP modes such as Stereo, Direct(subwoofer is unused in this mode), Studio-Mix, Orchesta, TV Logic, All Channel Stereo, and Unplugged.
For the natural sound I would recommend you leave it at stereo it is also the loudest mode I believe.
The receiver was purchased in March 2002 with the purchase of my Bose Acoustimass 15. The reciever has 5 speaker connections for front left, right, center, rear left, and rear right, and the subwoofer. There is also a B speaker connection for left and right speaker usage.
Turn on the receiver and to hear you must turn it up to at least 25 and then 40 to hear good on music. However put on a DVD and you must put to about 50 - 65. Anything about 65 and higher is too loud but that's just me. The receiver depending on the speaker volume setting can be turned up to about 99. I have never tried it and I don't think it's needed as it is already loud enough at 65.
The receiver is light and very easy to carry around if you ever need to carry it around. The speakers can be set from -12 to +12 depending on your preference.
The bass and treble can be set from -12 to +12 aswell.
There are three subwoofer modes to select from and I find that subwoofer mode 2 is the most powerful mode. The subwoofer crossover can also be adjusted 80, 100, 120 Hz.
The remote is slightly small however I find it good enough.
