The Bottom Line:
I recommend to someone who wants a lot of sound and features that doesn't break the bank.
I have had two JVC Receivers and they did a good job for an entry level receiver. But I wanted more power and more features and up to date wiring. I looked at the Haydon Karden Receivers at Circuit City and checked them out on various Web sites. I read the reviews here and at different stores, but a Refurbished on EBAY was $500-$1000. A salesman at circuit city told me I should try The Onkyo TX-SR501 and since they had a 30 day return policy I decided to try it out. Boy am I glad I did! My room is only 14'x 16' so I didn't need a really big receiver, but this thing will Rattle the window's. I am set up for 5.1 but I have the capacity for 6.1 now. Auto switching, if I watch a movie on HBO thats Dolby Digital it does it for me, I don't have to try and adjust this and that. The Neocinema sound is amazing on regular TV, and the Neo-music takes my old quad music (Pink Floyd) and rocks down. I got a open box unit at circuit city for $249.99 with the same warranty as a boxed one, which costs $299.99. They may call this receiver a entry level but its all I need and I didn't have to break the bank to get one. My front speakers are Polk- 501's with a Powered Subwoofer.
