The Bottom Line:
IF YOU WANT A GOOD SCOPE AND SPEND LITTLE MONEY, BUY THIS ONE... IF YOU LIKE THE EXPERIENCE... UPGRADE IT AND YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD SET.
I think this is a very good scope. Altough it is somehow cheap (less than 200 bucks), it offers a very good power due to its focal length (1000mm) (you can achieve 40x with a 25mm eyepiece instead the 14x you obtain in a 350mm telescope). I strongly recommend at least two another eyepieces and a barlow lens.
The biggest "Con" is the mount... it is made in wood, so it is delicate and heavy. Also, the eq mount, altough fairly good for an entry level, does not support a motor drive, which is needed for astrophotograpy. However you can upgrade to the EQ-1 tripod (about 75 bucks) and get the motor drive for something about 40 bucks.
You can use the scope as a central piece for an astronomy kit and upgrade the components that are "not so good"... investing around 150 extra dollars you can get a very good set of equipment for amateur astronomy and astrophotograpy.
