The Bottom Line:
I was very pleased with the performance and could see the night sky very clear and the setup was easy and it was easy to use.
I love looking at the stars through a telescope. So cool. I'm not fussy about my telescopes, so the Orion XT10 IntelliScope Telescope works just fine for me and hopefully for you to. So please read on.
I chose Orion because its a very popular name so I figured it must be worth the money, and it is. The quality of their scopes and other accessories is excellent and the prices are good.
Dobsonian scopes are very popular these days and here's why. This scope is known for its simple use of point and shot and for its large size in apeture for a low price. I heard that some people like to make their own dobsonian because its a lot cheaper that way. Less than 500.00.
Skyquest line of dobsonians are usually about the same except for a few small things. According to Orion, this scope is labled a "level 3" scope. You can by other Skyquests with lower scopes. A word to the wise. This scope is not a beginners scope so take some time to really learn how to use it. The scope assembles quite easily. All you have to do is take the base outside bring the tube outside, clip the two tension springs onto the base and putting an eye piece in.
This model has a 254mm primary mirror, which means its 10", so it can grab more light. The more light you can grab the better under clear dark skies. You will also get clearer views with more detail.
The XT10 comes with a 8x50 finder scope that is much better than the X78 model. It works very well. It has a 950 mm lens on it that will give you wide views when looking at objects and it grabs enough light. It also has a locking knob so it can stay focused all the time. But for some strange reason I had truble getting it to focus.
This scope allows you to insert 1.25" eyepieces, which is considered standard and 2" eyepieces. The views are awesome! Th eyepieces that come with the scope aren't too bad, but there are much better ones for your money.
To point and shoot the scope, you have to move the tube up and down, and the base swivels right and left.
This telescope also comes with a travel bag which is very handy. Its cost is rather high at 80.00. The bag is also padded which keeps it safe.
The only real complaint I have is that the scope is very heavy and I am a small person so it was heavy for me to lift.
Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and could see the night sky very clear and the setup was easy and it was easy to use.
