Great Rear Projection HDTV-Ready TV for the price

byv908 Apr 28, 2005
Pros Great price, plenty of connections, great picture, very reliable so far.
Cons Protective shield on the screen gives reflects glare, but all big screens seem to.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you're in the market for a rear projection, HD-ready TV in this size range (51-55"), this is a great option. Shop around for a good deal...
With all the wide screen format movies on DVD, it was finally time to upgrade my family room TV from a conventional TV to a big, wide-screen. With limited space and budget, this TV fit the bill perfectly. I shopped around a lot and overall like the features and display of this TV better than the others in this size category. Initially, the red was a little "hot," but that was easily fixed with the controls. Even though I'm not running a HD tuner to it, the picture is great -- much better than I anticipated. You don't see the scan lines and the pictures is crisp, clear, and plenty bright. I like the manual convergence capabilities, as you get much better picture adjustment than the automatic ones. This TV is heavy, but on wheels that allow is to be moved very easily (though move it too much -- like we do -- and you find yourself playing with the convergence more often). It's also not as deep as other TVs in this size range, so it takes up less room. It has plenty of hookups (we've got a DVD player, XBox, and stereo connected to it) and extra connections in the front for quick connections. The remote adapted to all our other devices (except the XBox) without any difficulty. Xbox games that support wide screen are GREAT on this set! Oh, and the sound is good enough that we usually forget to turn on the stereo to watch movies -- just using the speakers that are integrated into the set. It's not surround sound or anything, but they work very well for a TV.

Overall, I've been very happy with the TV and have had absolutely zero problems.
