The Bottom Line:
This camera is not for a beginner.
I bought the PV-GS65 after two months research comparing Sony products and the Panasonics.I thought the 3CCD and price of the PV-GS65 as opposed to the Sony DCR32 and 42 would be more to my liking. As a complete rookie camowner and operator I was bewildered by the layout and instuctions in the owners manual.I had read one very good review of this camcorder by a professional reviewer but now I realise the review was meant for those who have had previous experience with camcorders.
I must admit I have not yet finished with "fiddling" with the various settings and perhaps time and patience will help me understand this camcorder. Having only owned this for 3 weeks I can say I have experienced the following:
Very noisy Zoom on film when zooming in and out.
Motor noise when not filming-lots of it when filming
Poor results in hot, hazy and glare conditions
Unable to see much difference between Auto and Manual settings for the various light conditions.
The fader takes an age to fade in and out.
The MajicPix function and 0 MajicPix function appears useless-turning the LCD around does nothing.
Supplied battery is poor.
Those are a few of the negatives about the PV-GS65.
On the positive side:
It is light.
Colour in non glare/hazy conditions is excellent
Reasonably good at room low light(16lux)
I have not used the camcorder as a camera yet because I want to learn about the video side of things first
