Good Idea, disappointing results. Needs a better operating system.
Pros
Large storage capacity, good screen, speaker, good value for money.
Cons
Extremely poor operating system. Sluggish controls and file display.

The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this product to others, I am not confident that it will last long, and the user interface is slow and cumbersome
While the PVR H140 has great features, and appears to be a quality product, there are a number of disappointments when you open the box. My first disappointment was while it was charging, I tried to attach the "stand" on the back. When I read about the stand on the features before I bought, I thought it would be a cradle that you could use to sync with your computer. What you get is a hokey little metal stand that is supposed to clip into the back of the unit. Mine refused to clip on, and in the effort of trying to get it to clip on, I ended up scratching up the paint. (Yes the back is aluminum painted with silver paint.)
It takes a long time to boot up, and is incredibly slow. When paging down through a long list of files (eg songs or pictures) it scrolls one page at a time, and takes about 4 seconds to display the next page. If you have a long list of mp3s or photos, it takes a long time to find the one you want. The shuffle feature only works within the folder you are playing in. At the end of a folder, it just stops playing (doesn't go on to the next folder or album) so you are constantly coming back to advance it to the next playlist/ album or whatever.
The screen does not have an option to power off after a certain period of time. If you are listening to MP3s and want to conserve the batteries by powering off, you have to do so manually each time. The voice recorder is of a very low quality which would work for recording memos, but nothing more. Based on the quality of many voice recorders out there (esp. digital ones) this is disappointing.
The built in speaker is a nice touch, and while it is not of great quality, it does work quite nicely.
As an engineer, I of course had to take it apart, and was not impressed with what I saw inside. The way it is put together does not indicate that it will last long. Instead of having a metal or plastic chassis to which everything is attached, the hard drive and battery sit in a loose rubber enclosure. The function of the rubber enclosure is not to cushion the hard disk from shock- the case of the unit is screwed to the hard disk, so any shock from dropping will be transmitted directly into the hard disk. The rubber is just a cheap replacement for a chassis. It makes the unit a lot bigger than it needs to be because it takes up a lot of space.
Battery is not replaceable, and I have not gotten good life out of the battery so far. Not even 4 hours playing music.
If they put out a new operating system that works, and sell replacement batteries, I would be a lot better inclined to recommend this product.
