Excellent unit, durable, easy to use

Pros Easy to read display, straight forward use
Cons very minor issue with displaying of song names
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Nice unit. Solid, easy to use. Good sound quality. Supports both WMA and MP3.
I've owned this guy for almost a year and have only one complaint. When viewing song names on the display, the entire song would only scroll across the display only once, then the first 15 or so letters stay on the display until the next song. I would like continuous scrolling. But seriously, that's my only complaint.

Sound quality is very good. I can't rate as excellent, not because it isn't, I figured I would need to hook up better speakers and an amplifier to have a qualified opinion. The unit more than adequately powers the manufacturer installed
speakers in my car. I wasn't looking to put in a super primo sound system in my car, I was just looking for a replacement to my original stereo so I wouldn't have to switch CDs so much on a very long commute to work every day. The unit serves perfectly in this capacity.

I did the installation myself, in a 98 Chevy Lumina. An easy job for anyone with a moderate skill at taking stuff apart, but installation difficulty will vary much more based on your car than the stereo you are installing. Do some searching on the web for installation tips for your car. I actually found pictures for removing the dashboard cover for my car. You should be able to get the wiring harness and adapters online or from a electronics store like Best Buy. One suggestion, if you go the self install route, keep the packaging in good shape. Then if you can't get it in and need to return it, you'll have less of a hassle. I actually had to cut a little plastic mount under the dash to get the unit in, and I almost had to return it.

The display is bright blue, and designed so it's easily viewable in direct sunlight. I do wish after market car stereos behaved the same way the mfg unit does though with respect to display brightness. When dimming dashboard lights, the stereo stays full brightness no matter what. But that is a very minor irritation.

Unit supports WMA and MP3. The WMA format allows for about 30% more music on a CD and that was the primary reason I got this unit. On average, I can fit 13 albums on a CD when compressing with WMA. With MP3, I usually average 9. I compress all my music at 160kb on mp3 and 128kb with wma. I have never been able to tell I'm not listening to the original CD. This unit does not support WMA files that are copy protected, but that isn't an issue if you are simply converting your own cds.

Unit has a detachable faceplate, if you are interested in stuff like that. I just leave it in all the time.

A remote control comes with the stereo, and at first I thought that was the most useless accessory I could imagine for a car stereo. It turned out to be very useful, I can relax my arm on the center console and just use the remote. On large CDs, when you are searching for something, it comes in handy.
