Simple unit, good sound, and no skipping!
Pros
Good sound, never skips.
Cons
Bad pre-amp out
Recommended it?
Yes
When I bought my first "nice car", which is a Toyota Supra, I found out just how tough the suspension is on a true sports car. It was tough enough that the factory CD player started skipping after one year. I had to get something else, otherwise every little pothole stops the music. Of course I care a lot about the music itself. I pride in myself being an audiophile, and I do have a great stereo at home. But I did not want to buy 6-7 pieces of equipments for my car stereo. I want a headunit that sounds great and be done with my shopping.
I have always been very impressed with Panasonic's portable CD players. Not so much the feature, but the sound quality. If you really do a blind test on a few portable CD players, Panasonic always comes out on top. This unit sounds good to me. I like the treble a little laid back, and the mid more forward. I don't care that much about the bass, but this unit has enough. Over all, it does a good job on the music I listen to the most, which is female vocal.
In addition to the sound, the unit comes with 10 seconds anti-shock memory. Keep in mind that this is a car CD player, and already has a great CD pickup that doesn't skip. To add the 10 seconds means you can go offroad with it! Actually that's what the company advertise. I have never heard the unit skip.
It also takes CD-R. I have not tried CD-RW.
The only thing that sucks about the unit is that the pre-amp out is not as good. So if you plan on upgrading later on, forget about this unit. If you just want a new CD-player, without changing anything else, this is a great unit! And the price is reasonable too.
